I grew up as an optimistic kid. I watched cartoon in the eighties, but I was always more inclined to follow my country’s journey through the television tube. let it be on sports or other significant occasions, well, mostly sports.
I kept this to myself as a kid, but the joy of seeing the red and white flag rose above others was just too grand to tell.
That time, as I remembered, media –in their limitations- had been supplying me with endless news of pride, coverage of nation’s excellence. The anchors boasted prayers, and praises, all for the glory of a nation. One such example was the South East Asian Games coverage, where during that time span, was pretty much ruled by my country. We were just too good for our neighbours.
Fast forward 20 years to present days, reality check. Not only that those countries that shrunk before my nation’s power had grown into giants that rendered others to pity, I felt that the media –on their new reaches and means of communications- had done very small to help us –citizens- to understand what happened.
I saw very small portion of the news dedicated to review our losses, to encourage everyone to wake up and start fixing things. Not many.
The magnificent achievement of Barcelona FC seemed to be dominating more on social media boards, tweets, sports news sites, and others alike. These are done by my fellow countrymen. I am a bit sad.
I would not extend the depth of this ranting of a citizen, to the part where we clearly lacking interest of appreciating those heroes on the field, but I would like to hope that whatever it is, my people would remember that to fix this, all instruments within this nation must work together.
We were number three on the last SEA Games 2009 in Laos. Do you know? and if you do, do you care?
